WIRE FRAUD IS RAMPANT. You must take every precaution to verify ANY wiring instructions before initiating ANY wire transfer of funds to ANY party. The most common form of fraud involves a criminal hacking into an exchange of email between parties to a transaction and then misdirecting YOU to send YOUR money to THEM. Often the fraud involves very subtle changes in the wiring instructions which result in the complete loss of YOUR money. Once a wire transfer has been completed, it is very difficult, and most often IMPOSSIBLE, to pull back and recover funds that were misdirected to an incorrect account. Unfortunately, the result is the complete loss of the transferred funds.
Stop everything if you receive any last-minute emails from any party, including our firm, that alter our wiring instructions in any manner.
You must call and speak directly with the attorney handling your matter to confirm our wiring instructions before initiating any wire transfer.
Extreme vigilance is required at all times.
